Proceeds from the Golf Classic will benefit the ALS Clinic and the J. Thomas May Research Center at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in memory of Paul Dunn and all others who have fought and are currently living with this disease. With your help, UAMS researchers will continue their mission to detect ALS at its earliest stages, find better ways to treat it, and develop new ways to outsmart it and even cure it.

A couple of years ago, Michelle Harris of Des Arc knew that something was wrong with her husband, Cyle, but she just couldn’t put her finger on it. Little did she know that the time with her husband was running short. Cyle Harris was a 36-year-old man’s man. He was a firefighter in his community and a retired Army veteran. He enjoyed spending his time outdoors and playing with his children. He was just like many other Arkansas men, until he noticed that something was happening to his body. He first noticed the changes when his speech started to slur. “I would tell him, ‘Stop mumbling. I can’t understand what you’re saying,’” Michelle said.

February 7, 2011 - Student's Friendship Leads ALS Fundraiser
eb. 7, 2011| A strong friendship among four 12th-grade students recently led to an $8,073 check presentation for ALS research at UAMS. ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. The ALS clinical program at UAMS follows about 85 Arkansans with ALS under the care and direction of Stacy Rudnicki, M.D., and a team of speech, occupational, respiratory and other medical specialists.
